Parry Sound's Festivals Listing

Folks living in Barrie, Orillia, along Gerogian Bay or in the Muskokas (and those visiting)love festivals, be it spring, summer, fall or winter. Throughout the year, over 100 different festivals and annual events are put on by various local groups. There's no better way to enjoy yourself than to take in a festival.

Art in the Park

For close to thirty years now, Parry Sound's annual art and craft show features over 100 local and Canadian artists and crafters plus food vendors and entertainment - provided by the Parry Sound Theatre Group. See Art in the Park in Market Square Park in the downtown core of Parry Sound. Admission is free and bus tours are welcome.From 9a.m. to 5p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10a.m. to 4p.m. on Sunday, rain or shine.

Annual Parry Sound Dragon Boat Festival

End June

Start your summer off with the Annual Parry Sound Dragon Boat Festival. Highlights include: live entertainment/ beach party, vendors, dragon boat races, children's entertainment & activities, and fun for everyone. Waubuno Beach Park 705-746-4540,ext.319

Festival of the Sound

July & August

The highlight of the summer since 1980 is the best in classical and chamber music over a three-week season with fifty performances, many at the modern and stunning Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts and on the cruise ships the Island Queen and M.V. Chippewa. Featured also are lectures, art exhibits, and live programme notes.

Pointe au Baril Lion's Lobsterfest

mid-July

For ammost 20 years, now, enjoy hot lobsters, steak dinner or surf and turf. Price includes the dance which features two live bands. Pointe Au Baril Community Centre.

Poetry Bash 2004

mid August

Award-winning and critically acclaimed entertainers of international and local origins will converge in Parry Sound to demonstrate their considerable lyrical and literary skills. Performances (as well as an open mike session) start at 6:30 pm to 11 pm on Saturday at Don Cherry's/Travelodge, 72 James St., Downtown Parry Sound, upstairs in Alcatraz (admission $5.00) and 12:30 pm to 5 pm on Sunday at the Parry Sound Station Gallery, 1 Avenue Rd. (donations accepted).

Tugfest

End August

Working and pleasure tugs from around the Great Lakes will be flocking to the Parry Sound Harbour 2004 for the Georgian Bay Parry Sound Tugfest. Come and give the hark-working, underappreciated tugboat the kudos it deserves. Featured will be a Festival of Lights Parade, tugboat viewing, tugboat races, boat tours, awards dinner, and much more.

Sportbike Festival

September

For over twenty years, Parry Sound has hosted the annual Sportbike Festival, where motorcyclists from all over converge to share their love of the sport. Highlight is the World Famous Thunder Run, where thousands of motorcycles parade their skills and their finery to the public.. Bobby Orr Community Centre.

ATV Fall Jam

Start October

Canada's largest fall ATV jamboree. Start with a Meet & Greet at the fairgrounds, depart on a historical tour of a former stagecoach route, the Seguin Trail. Dinner withlive entertainment. Sunday includes a day of fun and competition. The day of events includes: the TRAX Challenge, bog run, weight pull, and obstacle course. Spectators are welcome.
