The 8,200 resident Town of Penetanguishene ("Pen -e-tang-WISH-ene") is a picturesque community located on the southerly tip of beautiful Georgian Bay. Penetanguishene derived its name from the "White Rolling Sand" that blankets the many beaches in the area. Penetanguishene was established as a community. The town's workforce is employed by manufacturing, health care, retail, construction, transportation and financial services. The town is home to 130 bed Penetanguishene General Hospital, and has 31 doctors and 14 dentists. Schools Penetanguishene has 14 English elementary and 3 secondary schools and 3 French elementary and 1 secondary. There are a number of post-secondary options nearby in Barrie and in Orillia.
ShoppingPenetanguishene has a small downtown shopping area, and 2 shopping malls. Recreation Penetanguishene is the gateway to Georgian Bay's 30,000 Islands national park cottage country. The town has a number of beaches and marinas in the community and close by, as well as 2 indoor swimming pools. There are a number of downhill ski areas and 4 golf courses very close by.
