Collingwood is a deep water port on the southern shore of Georgian Bay, in the area known as the Georgian Triangle. It lies onthe edge of teh famous Niagara Escarpment, and is 104 kilometers (65 miles) north of Toronto via Highway 400 and Highway 26.
The town's workforce of 8,000 is largely employed in manufacturing, tourism & retail trade, healthcare, and construction. The nearby village of Blue Mountain offers significant employment in the toruism & hospitality sector.

To the south of the town is the sports & vacation center of Blue Mountain.
